So who are you?

Aphy Ray. They/them. Queer Canadian Canadian queer fiction writer. I have other qualifications but they’re not relevant.

What do you write?

I’m coining the term ‘romantascifi’ because I like to throw magic in my sci-fi, and I’ve heard rumors that ‘romantasy’ is an important buzz word in the industry.

I write personality-driven stories, generally, with a hint of intrigue. More about dialog and interactions. Very little purple in my prose.

There’s also a bit of smut in there. I’m ace though so don’t expect anything especially useful.

“Dialog”? “Rumors”? I thought you said you were Canadian?

There’s just something freeing about using American spellings. What can I say? Guilty pleasure.

I know, right? Ren Strapp is a genius. It was a pleasure working with her on it, highly recommended.

…So. Is this like… your job… or…?

Oh. Haha. No. This is a hobby. My friends just insisted I publish the book I wrote and I’m very easily swayed. I love my friends.

That said, because it’s a hobby, I’m donating whatever profits come out of book sales to a charity in support of trans youth. My day job pays my bills pretty handily so I don’t really need the cash. Incidentally, if you happen to spot the eBook lying around anywhere, please don’t feel guilty stealing it. I do not care.

Also hey if you email me a receipt for a donation to a trans youth charity of your choice, like maybe a local trans-inclusive queer support organization or shelter of some sort, I will just send you a free copy of the book.

Excuse you, I had my good friends WordPress Dot Org and Free Ass WooCommerce helping. I have been assured everything is legit as hell. I even did the PayPal thing. You know how many forms I had to fill out to make that work? Too many.

Look like I said this is a hobby for me alright I can’t be spending thousands of dollars on websites. Shopify costs like five hundred bucks a year just to exist. You are welcome to shop on one of the other places that sells the book though, I won’t be offended. I just get a bigger cut of the sale this way and thus can charge less and donate more. In theory.

The book I got in the mail says it’s from some company called Ingram Spark?

Yeah that’s my printer. You give me money, I tell them to print you a book and ship it to you. If I could cut myself out as the middle man, I swear I would.

What’s with the discounts?

Gosh it’s just. It’s a whole thing. Selling books to bookstores means you gotta give them a discount they like, so they can make money. Which, like, okay, I get it. But I have to set the retailer price so ridiculously high to offset the discount so the book doesn’t lose money every time it gets printed for a retailer.

Anyways, if you shop here, I just pay for the print cost, so I can sell at a very nice direct-sale discount. But, sadly, no free shipping. And sometimes it ends up being cheaper to go with the retailers anyways because of that.

But retailers definitely aren’t selling my B-stock, so if you’re on a budget, I got your back. When they’re in stock.

And… no returns?

Sorry boss. But email me if the book is super fucked up by the time it gets to you and we’ll work something out. Like as in I’ll get the printer to send you a new copy or I’ll give your money back and you can keep the ruined book for kindling.
